After Kentucky’s deer harvest totals fell below the 10-year average in 2021, the Bluegrass state notched its fourth-best season ever in 2022.
For the 2021 season, Kentucky saw 132,296 deer harvested, including 75,158 bucks (57%). Those numbers saw a sharp increase in 2022, with 144,504 deer harvested. Of those, 79,167 were bucks (55%) and 65,337 were does (45%).
The top 10 counties were:
1. Christian - 3,471 deer; 1,765 bucks
2. Hardin - 3,393 deer; 1,781 bucks
3. Shelby - 2,929 deer; 1,419 bucks
4. Breckinridge - 2,864 deer; 1,528 bucks
5. Pendleton - 2,816 deer; 1,299 bucks
6. Crittenden - 2,707 deer; 1,297 bucks
7. Hart - 2,701 deer; 1,360 bucks
8. Washington - 2,700 deer; 1,315 bucks
9. Nelson - 2,618 deer; 1,267 bucks
10. Grayson - 2,615 deer; 1,266 bucks
The bottom five counties were:
1. Menifee - 202 deer; 179 bucks
2. Fayette - 247 deer; 146 bucks
3. Martin - 273 deer; 231 bucks
4. Bourbon - 274 deer; 178 bucks
5. Owsley - 286 deer; 225 bucks
The top five public land areas:
1. Daniel Boone NF - 1,098 deer; 771 bucks
2. Fort Knox - 890 deer; 494 bucks
3. Peabody WMA - 809 deer; 393 bucks
4. Land Between the Lakes - 482 deer; 319 bucks
5. Barren River Lake WMA - 158 deer; 73 bucks

Lots of deer harvested but I think deer season is way too long other hunters like to hunt other game as well and deer hunters don’t want anyone else out there when deer season is in.my suggestion is start deer gun season the last week of October and close the second week of November. November is the best hunting for most game
